When it comes to knowing our own back yard, our guides are very special.

All Fiordland Cruise Consultant guides have extensive experience in and around Fiordland National Park. They have also all at some part of their careers worked either as Rangers for the New Zealand Department of Conservation or Boat Skippers in the Fiordland Area.

Ross Kerr

Ross Kerr Ross is a retired Department of Conservation Senior Ranger with 47 years conservation work experience including 38 years in Fiordland National Park specializing in recreational management, and emergency services work. Retirement has Ross working for the New Zealand Police as a Firearms Officer, and as a Driver/Guide for a local Fiordland Tourism Concessionaire. He has 30 years managing and providing Port Information and Lecturing Services to International Cruise Ships visiting the West Coast Sounds of Fiordland National Park.

Hamish Angus

Hamish Angus Hamish was a Ranger with the Department of Conservation, and has over 30 years in Fiordland National Park in recreation operations management work, and prior to that backcountry tourism guiding as the Chief Guide on the world – famous Milford Track. Currently Hamish is a seasonal Freshwater Fisheries Ranger, and also involved with farming in the Te Anau Area. He has 13 years providing Port Information and Lecturing Services to International Cruise Ships visiting the West Coast Sounds and Fiordland National Park.

Peter Bloxham

Hamish Angus Peter is a Relief Skipper for the Department of Conservation vessel the ‘MV Southern Winds’ operating the Fiordland Coastline and at Stewart Island. He has an extensive marine background as a commercial Launch Master with Restricted Limit Shipping including Fiordland coastal and lake vessels. He has resided in the Fiordland Area for 30 years, and was the Chief Launch Master for Fiordland Travel/Real Journeys having an oversight of a sizeable fleet of vessels and crew. He was also the companies training and safety officer having a close working relationship with Maritime New Zealand.

Ian Thorne

Ian Thorne Ian was a Ranger with the Department of Conservation, and has over 40 years in Fiordland National Park with an extensive knowledge of and working on offshore islands such as Breaksea, Secretary and Resolution Islands on the Fiordland Coastline involving a range of biodiversity work with endangered bird species, and invasive pest eradication programmes. He is still actively involved in this work as a contractor. He has 15 years providing Port Information and Lecturing Services to International Cruise Ships visiting the West Coast Sounds of Fiordland National Park.

John von Tunzelman

John von TunzelmanJohn is a retired Department of Conservation Ranger with over 45 years in conservation work with much of his service spent in Fiordland National Park in the delivery of wild animal, fire control and law enforcement- compliance work, along with search and rescue co-ordination. John was awarded the Queens Service Medal in 1994 for services to search and rescue. He has 17 years providing Port Information and Lecturing Services to International Cruise Ships visiting the West Coast Sounds of Fiordland National Park.
