When it comes to knowing our own back yard, our guides are very special.
All Fiordland Cruise Consultant guides have extensive experience in and around Fiordland National Park. They have also all at some part of their careers worked either as Rangers for the New Zealand Department of Conservation or Boat Skippers and other roles within the Fiordland Area.
Ross Kerr
Ross is a retired Department of Conservation Principal Ranger with 47 years conservation work experience including 38 years in Fiordland National Park specializing in recreational management, and emergency services work. Retirement has Ross working as a Driver/Nature Guide for a local Fiordland Tourism Concessionaire. He has 35 years managing and providing Port Information and Lecturing Services to International Cruise Ships visiting the West Coast Sounds of Fiordland National Park and manages the Fiordland Cruise Consultant team.
Hamish Angus
Hamish was a Ranger with the Department of Conservation, and has over 30 years in Fiordland National Park in recreation operations management work, and prior to that backcountry tourism guiding as the Chief Guide on the world–famous Milford Track. Currently Hamish is the Regional Group Manager for Fire Emergency, New Zealand responsible for the Fiordland area. He has 17 years providing Port Information and Lecturing Services to International Cruise Ships visiting the West Coast Sounds and Fiordland National Park.
Peter Bloxham
Peter has an extensive marine background as a Commercial Launch Master with Restricted Limit Shipping including Fiordland coastal and lake vessels. He has resided in the Fiordland Area for 30 years, and was the Chief Launch Master for Real New Zealand Ltd having an oversight of a sizeable fleet of vessels and crew. He was also the companies training and safety officer having a close working relationship with Maritime New Zealand. He Has 6 years providing Port Information and Lecturing Services to international cruise ships visting the West Coast Sounds and Fiordland National Park.
Ian Thorne
Ian was a Ranger with the Department of Conservation, and has over 40 years in Fiordland National Park with an extensive knowledge of and working on offshore islands such as Breaksea, Secretary and Resolution Islands on the Fiordland Coastline involving a range of biodiversity work with endangered bird species, and invasive pest eradication programmes. He is still actively involved in this work as a contractor. He has 19 years providing Port Information and Lecturing Services to International Cruise Ships visiting the West Coast Sounds of Fiordland National Park.
Richard Kinsey
Richard is currently a Senior Ranger with the Department of Conservation, based in Te Anau being responsible for the oversite of the Fiordland Marine Monitoring Programme. He has lived in Te Anau for over 15 years, and spends a lot of time in the fiords with work. Richard is a crew member on the Department of Conservation's vessel the MV Southern Winds, and as a scientific diver and marine ecologist, he spends a lot of time under the water as well as above it, monitoring the marine environment. Richard is a new member of the Fiordland Cruise Consultant Team, and looking forward to sharing this spectacular part of New Zealand.
